First Day in Juarez

So after a long day of travel yesterday, we have almost finished our first full day in the Casa in Juarez. The house parents don`t speak a word of English and that is making things very difficult, but we are making it work with what little Spanish Bill Wheeler was able to teach me. (Thanks Bill!)

This morning we drove around the town and got to see the border here. Later, we walked around the city with the social worker for the Casa and visited some of the shops there.

After we finished lunch a boy arrived here to stay. It made my day to have someone here who speaks English. We just finished playing a few games of UNO with him and quizzing him about his life, which is very interesting.

It turns out that my internet access may actually be a bit limited than planned. So, I`m just going to have to see when I can get online to write. Hopefully it will be soon!

  1. Ahh UNO... what a great game to play, no Spanish/English required. Glad to hear you met your first visitor at the Casa, what an impact you must be making! Be safe, we're thinking about you at High Street!

  2. I bet the kid was also glad to hear you speak English (and have someone to play UNO with)! We are honored that you are representing the YMCA of Central Kentucky.

  3. I hope that you at least let the kid win... even though you are a sore loser! Haha!
